Rain-out Procedure

From Baseball Ontario's website:

Lightning: Please remember, the baseball season is a prime time for thunder storms, so be aware of lightning and remember the 30-30 Rule.

  • 30-30 Rule:
Determine the threat of lightning in your area.

    • 30 Seconds:
Count the seconds between seeing lightning and hearing thunder. If this time is less than 30 seconds, lightning is still a potential threat. Seek shelter immediately.

    • 30 minutes:
After the last lightning flash, wait 30 minutes before leaving shelter. Half of all lightning deaths occur after the storm passes. Stay in a safe area until you are sure the threat has passed.

      Blue Notes Article: Lightning

1 through 4 of the following are the responsibility of the home team coach:

  1. The home team coach is responsible for contacting the  by phone when a decision has been to cancel the game. (905) 630-9625.  The decision should be made a minimum of 2 hours before the game starts
  2. The home team coach is also responsible for contacting the opposing team coach and advising them of the decision to cancel the game.
  3. Within 48 hours of the game cancellation, the home coach must notify the scheduler of the cancellation by completing the game schedule request form.  Failure to do so may result in a loss of City rental fees for the WMBA.
  4. The home team coach is responsible to contact the opposing team coach to reschedule the game.
  5. The Home team is responsible to attend the park and  pull up and put away bases that have been set for the game.
  6. Each team coach contacts their players to advise them of the cancellation.

Once the game has started, the decision to call a game due to weather is in the hands of the umpire.

For Blastball and T-Ball – coaches should follow steps # 2 – # 5 as there are no umpires for either of these divisions.

There is a new structure that includes an Initiation Coach designation in a Community Sport Stream.  The on-line component is $37.45 and is an outstanding resource that you can visit again and again.

The full Initiation Coach program is comprised of two parts:

  • Baseball Canada's On-line Library - a complete resource to help get you started and a place to revisit often while you coach children's baseball and
  • Initiation Coach Clinic - a Provincial/local 4-5 hour, on-field clinic that you attend after completing the On-line Library. The clinic covers practice sessions, the fundamentals of the game and ethical decision making.

WMBA will reimburse coaches for half of their annual training costs to a maximum of $100.
